Picture disc
A picture disc is perhaps the most unique and ultimate way to create a vinyl record. The possibilities are endless—design both sides of the entire disc with your own artwork.
Pressing Technology
Over the years, picture discs have had an undeserved negative reputation. Very few presses around the world offer this format, as it requires a different pressing technique that is more time-consuming and demands greater precision for each disc. The sound quality may not quite reach the level of a standard vinyl record. This is due to the ”label” that covers the entire surface, displaying the image/design, and the extra layer of plastic film that coats the disc. This plastic film forms the surface the needle reads from, rather than the usual vinyl surface found on a standard record. The film allows the record to be played without the needle digging into the paper label.
Design Detail
The colored edge around the disc is the vinyl underneath the label/design. A few millimeters must remain clear of the label to give the needle space to catch before the first groove. If you’d like to use this as a design feature, you can select different vinyl colors, just as with standard records, to create an even more unique appearance.
